Happy Birthday to Casey!!!

Yesterday Casey turned 25! Woo Hoo! We had quite the fun day (though I unfortunately have no pics for you ... still no camera). He stayed home from work and we spent the morning at Temple Beach.

Noone was there for the first 1/2 hour or so - he wrote a huge 25 in the sand, made a sand castle city, and we walked WAY out on the sandy area between the two reef shelves - you know where I mean? in front of the fallen-tree spot of course - we got to where it was about neck high for me and decided to turn around. You might not know, but just a few short months ago (okay, so like a year) I was hydrophobic, yes, phobic. At that time, we had lived in Hawaii over a year and I had never gone to the beach much less gotten in the water. I started going with my friend Melissa (she can atest to the fact that I would literally freak-out at knee deep water) and Casey took me snorkeling a few times, and gradually I've overcome the irrationality of the fear, but I still get really scared by large bodies of water at times.

Well, yesterday was one of those times. Once we got about neck deep I decided to swim instead of walk. At this point I swore I was getting sucked out to sea. I felt like I was swimming backwards ... yada yada yada, I wasn't in fact swimming backwards and everything was fine. Luckily Case was there to calm me and bring me back to reality (which was that we weren't getting sucked out to sea).

After the beach and Addi's nap we headed to Windward mall. We intended on getting fish for the tank - for our anniversary last year I surprised Case with a salt water fish tank (thank you Carters). This past fall we had a bout of ich, like the flu for fish only totally different, which came from a racoon butterly Case caught. Everyone (meaning every fish) got sick and died. We cleaned the tank, treated it for ich, and tried putting new fishies in two months later - got sick again. Then a third time, sick again. SO, we dumped out all the water and sand, treated the rock to a fresh-water dip, bought new lights that promote algae growth (one of the old ones had burnt out), yada yada - we now think the tank is ready for fishes again. So, back to Windward Mall - the pet store had some nice tangs (Dory), a cool pipefish, a maroon clown (Nemo), etc. etc. But every single fish had ich. No exaggeration here. The tanks are all linked ... every fish was sick. Isn't that crazy! So, no fish.

Then we had a suprise party for Case - woo hoo! Even I was surprised. We got home and I don't know where they had parked, but everyone parked very inconspicuously (maybe they were at 7-11 - seriously don't know where they parked). No shoes outside ... they even thought to lock the front door behind them. Everyone was hiding in the kitchen - they jumped up from behind the bar and started singing one of the primary "Happy Birthday" songs. It was awesome! Some red velevet cake (thanks Parkers) and good conversation later, it was bedtime.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASE! I LOVE YOU!

Happy Birthday Casey! It sounded like you had a fun birthday. The good thing about no pictures is that it leaves us to our imagination. How can you tell if the fish have ich? Did I spell that right? Did the animal shop stop selling them or were they trying to sell them with the flu?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASEY!!!!

I had no idea you were afraid of the water. I've always known you with a Sweet tan, and hear tales of you going to the beach almost everyday! I can totally relate though. large bodies of water freak me out. first of all, you don't know what's lurking in it, AND secondly,.....

I dont' have a secondly.. It just scares me sometimes.

I am a little sad that all the fish seem to be sick!

oh, and we should TOTALLY do dinner sometime!! We've got some friends vacationing here and we might be getting together with them on the weekend, so i'll get back to you as to which day is better for us!
