through the window

every muscle in my body tensed mid-stride at what i saw. i threw myself to the floor.

it was 1:33 in the morning. gwen was awake, screaming like she had never screamed in her 7 months 2 weeks and 1 day of life. i had just sent case in to soothe her, as i was completely exhausted. it was when i walked back into our bedroom that i saw it.

a shadow peering through his opened louvres into our personal space. cigarette smoke haloed his head. he stared, silent.

i crawled towards the bed, afraid he could see me if i stood, climbing my way up the satin sheets. safe from his view i stole another glance out the window.

still, he stood. watching. waiting. smoking.

the smell lingered in my nostrils. my heart raced at this intrusion of my privacy ... my life. silently and swiftly i closed our louvres. his were still open.

that's how it's been lately with the neighbor. no more calling the cops. just watching. interfering. demeaning. intruding.

nap time. bed time. after baths. anytime we're in the girls' bedrooms and one or both of them is fussy i hear him yelling for me to "shut them up, already!" i hear him telling me how bad of a mother i am. sometimes i believe him. sometimes i ignore him.

but the yelling is less disconcerting than the silent, smoldering silhouette i saw this morning at 1:33.

eww that gave me chills! What a creep....whats hard about that is what are you going to say if you call the cops, my neighbor is staring at me? That is a tough situation. By the way, you are a very good writer....I was very into your story....maybe you could write a scary book about the neighbor!

That is NOT cool. I got a sick feeling in my stomach when I read that.

There is just something... Scratch that... EVERYTHING wrong with the fact that your personal space and Privacy is being peeped on like that.

And i'm sure the jabs he yells are even worse..

Something needs to be done with this neighbor of yours.

I'll pray for you both!

I agree, MOVE... All I can think of is the time that you are alone without Case. Oh the thought of him staring in the middle of the night gives me the hebee jebeeze.

if you don't want to move, maybe you should get some thick curtains that he can't see through and install some sort of an alarm.

Stef, how is it that you always have something cinema worthy going on in your life? This is crazy. We really don't want anything to happen to you or your family, so please listen to the spirit. This guy sounds really strange and strange is not good this day in age. Just so you know, you are a good mother. Also, you are such a good writer. I want a signed copy of your first book that you decide to publish.

i'll come out there and egg is house, and maybe even burn it to the ground while he isn't home...then he can't come home...don't worry, if you want me to take care of "it" just say the word and I'll come out there!
