good news!

so today case and the women went to the doc to get their flu meds. i feel bad for the girls 'cause theirs is liquid and it tastes like yuck.

when i was at the girls' doc i decided to ask all the questions i forgot to ask my doc. see, my appt. with my doc went something like this:

"what are your symptoms?"

"blah blah blah (list of symptoms) ... i read online that those matched swine flu symptoms, and i've been around someone who had influenza a in the past 7 days."

"yep, that's what it is."

"so i have it? swine flu? do you need to do a test or something?"

"no. that's what it is. i'm 92% sure. i'd have to swab your nose and it's not very comfortable," she hands me my scrips. "take these and call me if you don't get better." she hands me a mask, "and don't go in public for a while, but if you have to, wear this."

and that was that. now don't get my wrong. i like my doctor. but i also like concrete diagnoses.

so i read online and it said you're contagious from 1 day before symptoms show until 7 days after. so i figured i'm in the clear sunday evening at the latest since my symptoms wandered in saturday night and through sunday.

but it still bugged me (more and more, the healthier and more level-headed i got) that my diagnosis was given without a test. swine flu? and i swallowed it, without a test? not like me. yah yah, my fever was high and my body hurt so i wasn't really in an analytical, argue-it-out mood.

anyways, today at the pediatrician he explained it better. influenza A is the category that swine flu falls under. we have influenza A for sure, but the swine flu test is a 3 week mail-it-to-the-mainland thing. SO we might not have swine flu.

at any rate, the symptoms are the same, the medicine is the same, everything's the same. and since our noses weren't swabbed i guess we'll never know ...

but either way, by next wednesday we'll ALL be free!! YAY! (1 day before my birthday ...)

yeah, i was going to write a comment on your first post but got side tracked, because one of the girls in the hale said she had 'swine flu' and the health center called me about the whole quarantine thing (we had to move her roommate) and they said that it may not be swine flu per-say, but anyone showing symptoms in being diagnosed and treated as if they DO have it, because it takes to long to test it, and by the time the test gets back they'll be over it or they won't, and then they'll know they have swine flu.

yup, that is what doc sutherland told us too. and pretty much as soon as your fever is gone your contagiousness goes down like 97%. after that you would have to like lick someone for them to get it.

That HAS to narrow down how you got it then. I mean how often do you get licked? ;D
