Random Addiness

Lately Addi and I have been getting to hang out a ton and I've been loving it! We go to the beach, make cards for Daddy, clean house (well, we don't really do that together but she's there when I'm doing it). Another huge bonus is that the past few weeks she has wanted to cuddle with me in the morning when she first wakes up. Never in her 18 months of life has she wanted to cuddle, so I'm soaking it up before she changes her mind. Sometimes she likes to lay her head on my belly and pats it repeatedly saying, "Baby!" (She does this to her belly, and other people's bellies - including men - so I'm not quite so sure she understands the whole 'baby in belly' concept). She also recently discovered that she can "trap" herself under the dinner table by pulling all the chairs in around her like a fort. It's become a daily ritual. She takes some toys in with her and plays imaginary games that I will only understand when she begins speaking English ... I think she thinks I can't see (or hear) her in there.

Addi is still on the bottle. We tried to take her off a couple times but the sippy-cup transition didn't go so hot. Day 1 was ... well, slightly bearable. Day 2 - insanity. Day 3 - her liquid consumption had cut in half and she woke up twice during the night to drink (and she drank 20 oz. each time). I wonder if she'll be taking one to kindergarten .... The Doc was strongly encouraging me to take her off the bottle so I kept trying. Then I realized, "Why?" So I asked him, "Why?" He said ear infections and cavities are the biggest reasons, so I rebuttled by bringing up how quickly Addi drinks a bottle - never more than 5 minutes (cavity argument), and that the only time she does so laying down is for nap time and night-night time (ear infection argument), as well as the fact that she has never had an ear infection. I also asked what the difference was, for either of these things, between her sucking on a sippy cup and sucking on a bottle. yada yada ... she's still on the bottle.

She is so adorable!! I really like your table and chairs. Very cute! I think that Addi has beautiful teeth and she'll be ready to give up the bottle someday. Good job mom!

I'm so glad you called your doctor on that. Mine has been trying to get me to get Barrett off the bottle too. My only reason for wanting too is so he won't steal one from the new baby. (-: But seriously, he actually does drink from a sippy cup during the day, and I just give him a bottle before bed. It's calming and relaxing for him and I just don't see a real reason to give it up. We hold him while he drinks so the ear infection thing is invalid for him too. And cavities--baby teeth fall out, right? (Just kidding). Anyway, go with your mommy gut.

Oh, and if you really want to switch to a sippy, try removing the stopper inside the lid until she gets the hang of it. When I did that Barrett picked up on it right away. Or you can go straight to a straw cup (juice boxes are great for that because you can squeeze the juice without them sucking). Sorry this is so long.
