our house is desk less.

i don't really know how i've made it this long without one. in fact, did you know that there is a medical condition from people who use their laptop on their laps. yep. true story. burns. scars. tissue, nerve deadness something-er-other.

and guess what... i have a laptop.

and right now, at this very moment while i'm typing to you, it sits atop my lap.

"isn't that where a laptop belongs?" you might think, "atop a lap?"

no.
it belongs on a desk.

next to cute stationary and overpriced organizy desk things that are magnetic and useful, and keep your #2 lead pencils separate from what ever other lead numbers there might be. (isn't it always the trusty #2 that you reach for though??) and then there are little filing boxes filled with IN mail and OUT mail, and a message cork board, and varieties of printer and cardstocky paper to choose from, all organized in adorable little patterned ikea boxes...

oh, the glory and magnificence that is a desk!

so casey is building us one. (right Honey-Do? *wink wink*)

and these are the options, so far...

the hangy wall desk
Hollow form cantilevered desk
via (it's #7)

tell me you didn't just wipe a little drool off your chin from this lovely, utilizable piece of art.

next, the
hollow modern desk
desk

handy dandy use of space, eh!

then the
SHELF SPACE DESK

simple. get's the job done. nice and minimalistic...

and last,
the apple desk.

my drawers would be some shade of teal, sea-foam-green, light aqua, etc.
think "ocean".

now before you go making any decisions on which desk is ohsoperfect for my little ol' self to be tip-tap-typing away at dayafterdayafterday, let me show you the space it will call home.

okay okay okay...
so i'm totally outing myself with this foto. we do in fact have a desk. it is, in fact, the desk i grew up with. (oh how cute! i know...) BUT the part of the desk where you would place your books, papers, elbows, and
LAPTOP
isn't actually screwed into anything.

easily fixable, yes. but you know what i need people... a real desk.
a space for organized crafting, working, bill paying, phone calling, blog typing, foto editing space.

and the real desk is gonna go in that little space right there where the real-yet-not-exactly-completely-fulfilling desk sits. or sat. it hasn't been there for months.... yada yada. are you pickin' up what i'm puttin' down?? it's a small space. this has gotta been one efficient desk.

(aside: that totally just made me think of charlotte's web... anyone? anyone? "that's one fine pig!" you know... nope? just me?

moving on...)

now here's where you come in...

which one, which one???

i love them all. each and every one.
for different reasons.
and i need outsourced input.

so cast your vote!

and casey will build.

ps. the person who most sways my opinion gets a prize!
true story.
and yes... this is completely subjective.

I am in LOVE with the 'shelf space desk'! I am into the clean lines. Look at it this way...the 'shelf space desk' will save you from stubbing your toes on the legs of a traditional desk! Haha!

I second the shelf space desk but honestly it will probably get 'hung' on by children....

I am torn between the Shelf space desk and the Apple desk. I think I would go with the Shelf space one. It's cool.

love the apple desk, but i'm thinking you don't want any roaches in any spaces, so i'd have to say the hangy wall desk. no home for critters. and that's a huge deal here in the tropics.

Ok. Apple desk is way too stuffy. Hollow modern is cool, but no storage (read, shelving) really. I like the Shelf Space desk, personally, but it's not logical.

1. your kids will climb all over it.
2. Liko has an AMAZING point. Ew. Ew. Ew.
3. there is no where to "hide" things from your bambinos...

If your kids are anything like me, we have to have some serious shelving ABOVE desks. So... I would go with the hanging one. It's the only one that actually has a place where you could keep things out of reach from little people. I guess that's the selling point: NOT having things accessible to the kids.

The end.

Okay, the hangy wall desk steals my heart, but the shelf space desk would be more suited with all that space to use. Can you combine them? I think you can and I think that would be the perfect desk. Cute shelf up high to put stuff on and a cubby underneath for useful stuff AND you get a way cool looking desk that will wow any one. Question: was the white on the hangy desk white board because that would be amazing. IF you took down the white board and made a tall hangy desk.. do you see where I'm going with this... it could be magical!

I think the Shelf space desk is the best and this is why.

1. clean lines
2. no stubbing of your feet
3. I like the idea of using those square box frames above the desk for extra storage. They would look great above the desk and you could use them as decoration too. Paint them different colors, add a few sea shells or whatever. Think about it. I think you will like it.

I had to think this one through but the Apple Desk. Although this would be the hardest to clean under etc.

While the Self Space, and wall hanging desks are cool, and you may not stub your feet; your hips are going to take a beating. Ever hit the edge of a table with your hip cuz you can step under the corner of the leg? My point exactly, also agree with the statements that kiddos will hang.

The hollow desk is cool, but think of your kids fear when you take out your frustration after your papers, or pens or cute ikea containers roll off the tops space and spill down into the lower compartment, plus unless you put organizers there is no stacking. But I know you like to keep things clean so this may work for you. Maybe I should say the adaptations I would suggest:

If you go with Hollow- make ledges to secure the contents of the top section.

If you go with the Hangy wall desk make it high and use a bar stool as a chair.

I just don't think the shelf space will work high- too narrow and floating.

As I see it the only disadvantage of the apple desk is sweeping under it, but those cool accents at the bottom may help with that.

I know I didn't give a clear answer, but if you end up doing on of my variations, I deserve a prize, plus this elaboration should score me effort points.

I would combine the shelf space and the hangy wall desk....only go more vertical since your space is horizontially challenged...have shelves above your desk space for all the things you need to keep out of reach of little ones
